Comparison
Choosing how to run Discord applications
This page compares workflows you can verify yourself: ApplyDesk (portal + review queue + bot), Google Forms, and Discord-only application bots. It does not claim competitor feature lists we cannot verify.
| Factor | ApplyDesk | Google Forms | Discord-only bot |
|---|---|---|---|
| Applicant experience | Branded public portal on your subdomain (custom domain on paid plans). | Generic Google Forms page; no community branding beyond the form title. | Modal or channel flow inside Discord; limited field count and length. |
| Application review | Staff dashboard queue with statuses, notes, search, and CSV export. | Spreadsheet rows; no built-in review workflow or staff permissions. | Channel messages with approve/deny buttons; weak archive and search. |
| Discord integration | Bot posts reviews, slash commands, and syncs roles on decisions when configured. | Needs a separate webhook or bot; role assignment is not native. | Native Discord UX; roles often assign on button click. |
| Role assignment | Server-wide and per-form roles (Pro+) for approved, rejected, trial, and on hold. | Not built in — requires another product or manual work. | Usually built in for approve/deny; advanced workflows vary by bot. |
| Reviewer workflow | Assignments, multi-approval, clarifications, and audit (plan-dependent). | Comments in Sheets; no applicant portal for follow-up. | Thread or reaction based; limited structured notes. |
| Analytics | Workspace analytics on Pro/Enterprise; activation events for operators. | Form response charts only; not application ops metrics. | Usually none beyond channel history. |
| Setup complexity | Connect Discord, add bot, publish a form — guided by a launch checklist. | Fast to create a form; slow to operate at staff-hire scale. | Fast for short forms; painful for long staff scenarios or files. |
| Pricing model | Free tier with limits; Pro and Enterprise for domains, routing, and team controls. | Free for Forms; ops cost is staff time and glue scripts. | Often free or tip-jar bots; features and reliability vary. |
When each approach fits
- Discord-only bot — short helper or event forms that fit a modal and do not need a durable archive.
- Google Forms — one-off surveys where nobody will re-open answers next week and Discord identity is optional.
- ApplyDesk — staff, whitelist, partner, or gaming applications that need a branded page, a review queue, and Discord roles after a decision.
